The works that we present by the artist Manu Muñoz are immersed in the most classic concepts of painting, which are used through a contemporary plastic language where some of the most characteristic features of the series from previous eras are synthesized.

Los drippings de “Arsenales de energía” (1998) reappear this time to disfigure the image and turn it into a blurred memory or a reality in the process of transformation.

The compositions, dynamic and sometimes chaotic, bring to mind the floating scenes of “Virtual Unreality” (2001).

In “Local Anesthesia” (2006), figuration made its way to take part in a universe in which nothing seemed to remain still and where the dimensions of the support were only a physical limit. In his last exhibition in London, “Psychotourism” (2010), nature, always very present in the works of Manu Muñoz, took the form of birds in flight, sometimes in sinister skies and other seductive chromatic explosions.

This line was maintained until "The flight" (2013), a show where some of those "lesser beings" also began to appear that serve to articulate and give shape to the stories represented in "Lesser Beings", a list of small stories starring by beings as unknown as they are fundamental.

In this new series, the digital contribution in the editing process of the previous sketches is evident in the treatment of colour, which, although it continues to preserve the essence of what is represented, gives the image an almost unreal atmosphere. The figurative elements continue to be a mere pretext for the construction of scenarios in which to accommodate new ways of understanding, seeing and thinking, with a clear intention to go beyond what is primitive and natural. It is understandable that there is a relationship at the plastic level between the works, but also an insistence that each one of them be unique; sometimes its protagonists appear as mere spectators and other times as main protagonists of events imagined that, in most cases, they would not exist outside of a dream world.

The exhibition will be made up of a dozen pieces, medium and large format, made in acrylic during the last months of 2013, and can be visited from January 28 to February 25. This exhibition will be the second that Manu Muñoz performs at the Blanca Soto Gallery. The first, “Relative humidity”, took place in 2002 in Hermosilla street, the gallery's first headquarters.
